If you spray it on the paint then I would clean it up just to be safe, but I used their wheel cleaner also and a good scrub followed by a full car wash. And like it says just clean, let the wheel dry, spray it on, then let it dry for 1hr.
I get some black residue sometimes, but they'll wipe off super easy with a rag.
