it's really preference in the winter months I tend to use a sealant, right now we have been testing
Sonax Net Shield its on just about all the cars at the shop and we have found it to be doing extremely well.
it's applied by hand by small sections.
here is a video of it on my daily driven car after a month and still going strong.
