The other option is to run a wheel that allows for wider rubber. The 18x9.5" ARC-8's allow for 275/35/18 tires and with a roll you can fit a 285. At 18.2lbs. it lighter then most 17's on the market.

The diff is definitely important if you care about drag times, but even a 255 tire will be limited once you get a diff.
Definitely going to look into arc8s they look great and aren't too pricey. might have to sell my current rims and go with those.
