Unfortunately BMW put a soft-touch rubber coating on the cup holder section of the console, so as it wears it looks like crap. There is a thread here that someone posted, where they took out the center console and cleaned all the soft-touch shit off with a green scrubber pad. I did that, and I don't recommend the green scrubby thing, as it can scratch the plastic. I used just soap water and my fingers, which still makes the rubber coating come off. Getting the rubber coating out of the cup-holder and it's little grabby things is real bitch.

You also cant separate the cup-holder part from the rest of the console as it is plastic-riveted to it. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
