The 5 has more scenery like rolling hills and stuff that might be pretty this time of year, the 101 has the nice coastal scenery. I took the 5 up from LA to SF, and the 101 back to LA...never again...its neat and fun the first 10-15 min, then its just too long...might be nice if you are the passanger.
