Thread revival time!
Either my searching skill is lacking, or this is still an uncommon issue. This is the first thread that I have come across that matches my issue almost identically. I was not fortunate enough to catch it on a log, however.
Mine has gone from very similar, on slight uphill incline, etc - to now leaving the WG at 0.
OP, did you ever find the problem and/or fix?
