For all us US owners. Do we have to pay for the 1200 mile service? Does it matter if I do this service at another dealer than where I purchased it from?

The 1200 mile service is included, you shouldn't have to pay [regardless of dealer]. In the US it includes the oil service [including filter] and rear diff service. It doesn't include the transmission service.
Some dealers have been giving customers free transmission service in the US out of good will. I didn't have such luck in LA.
