From what I looked up, sounds like it's all not true.
Auto parts stores sell stuff for ridiculous markup. They'll have "sales" and still have huge margins. Walmart works on lower margins for some products. Amazon too.
I think the stuff I got is legit and I've never thought that the Mobil 1 I got from Walmart was not the same as I'd get from anywhere else. Packaging is different now (for a long time I think it was the same?).
