It has been done before though. Last fall, a few of us local 1er owners met up for a mountain drive. One of the guys had recently bought a used 2010 135 that was badged as an "is", with the dealer also claiming it was an "is".

My guess is the 1M will fit that category, but probably not for other 135 and 128 models.
