Because I want to run German made Castrol. I have access to Mobil-1 oil sold on the Army Base here. I can also order stuff from the states to my APO. Its just I prefer the German Castrol.
Normally a 5L jug of Castrol oil costs 79 to 99 euros. I can buy the same oil "discounted" for about 45 euros.
When I first got my car I was using Mobil-1 0w40 European Blend(black label bottle) oil bought at the PX on base here. After three oil changes I decided to give the German Castrol RS Edge oil a shot. I was simply AMAZED on how much quieter my engine ran on cold start. There was a lot less metallic noise. My oil temps were also just under two needle widths cooler all the time.
So I am ok paying more for my oil. Its like all the Germans know... if you want quality you gotta pay up.
