I ran a 20mm front spacer on my DSP E36 car for literally years, running big 285 Hoosiers on 18x10s with nothing but autocross and track use and never had to even do a wheelbearing. A good hubcentric spacer and a strong stud kit and you really don't need to worry.

I am also considering Forgestars in 17x9 and am thinking about a +52 to allow for tons of room in the rear and an easy spacer in the front (20mm is extremely common). I think custom ordering a non square setup is a huge waste given that the tire wear is going to be an issue and worth having the ability to rotate front to rear for.

I suspect in the interim I am just going to order the 17x9 +45s and roll the rear and run a 12mm spacer in the front.
