A 255 RE71R is a BIG tire and is the absolute limit of what fits well under stock fenders - with 3.2 degrees of camber it BARELY fits at a low ride height (which is exactly what happens when you compress the soft stock springs).

Sorry; I did not state RE71s but ran 255 Falken 615K Gen 1 on Kosei K1 17x8.5 for AutoX with no rubbing on stock suspension.
I am currently running 17x9 RE71s with around the same camber at not a low ride height (JRZ RS2) and have no problems.
Maybe you guys are just running the car harder than me.
