My recommendations would be to choose between the following LL-01 approved oils:
Mobil 1 0W-40
Castrol Edge Syn 0W-30 (German Castrol)
Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-40
Mobil 1 is probably the best bang for buck oil you can get for your BMW and easily available at Wally World for $25/5 quarts or less.
German Castrol is considered by some to be magic pixie dust for BMW's, since it is fully group IV synthetic and has quite the following.
Pennzoil Ultra can be very hard to get (Amazon has a decent price, especially if you subscribe to it, though they stop carrying it occasionally) but it is supposed to be an excellent cleaning oil.
Others would call out boutique/European oils like Motul, Redline, Royal Purple, Liqui Moly, etc., but the three above are usually less expensive/on sale more often/easily available locally.
Either way, just my two cents on a easily confusing issue that can often lead to information overload.
