Which rim width is better for a 255 RE71R up front: 8.5" or 9"

I have a set of 4 APEX ARC8 17x8.5 42 mm offset rims and just took delivery of a set of 4 ForgeStar F14 17x9 50 mm offset (I think a 12mm spacer would be needed up front) and a set of 255-40 RE71Rs for autocross and was wondering which rim width would be better for the front? The front tires are mounted on the APEX rims which rub a little on dips on the street, but it's livable and the rims/tires aren't my DD setup. If the 9" rims would be better for the tire/traction then I can have them swapped when I get the correct spacers. I'm using the 9" rims for the rear so I can play with the spacing of the front.
