Maybe I misread, but I don't think that's what Bryan meant. A 1-series for $30K would be priced out of the competition and would overlap the 3-series. The relative cost for cars in Europe can be as much as 20% higher in some cases.
While it may be unconfirmed, I'd be guessing $27-28K is about right for a base 1-series with a i6 in North America... Still about $5K below a 328i.
They'll have to be more careful in Canada, though. We have the 323i (not sold in the US) that starts at $35,600(CAD). It'll be a little tighter to squeeze the 1-series below that price point. But with $27-28K(USD), that means it would be around $32K(CAD) if the Canadian $ stays strong...
