You can wax the Bra portion. The recommendation is to use a wax that has no dyes. Also, if you get the 3m bra (one being installed on my car today
), it actually has a clear coat as the topcoat of the bra.
You will want to put some sort of protection on it to help remove bug splats ect. when you wash the car.
