I had mine replaced about 2 weeks ago. They said there was a BMW serviced bulletin on HOW to properly re-install the light cover.
The KEY is to tell the service mechanic NOT TO OVER-TORQUE the 2 spring-loaded studs. That is what puts pressure on the plastic, initiating a stress crack. Apparently, these studs are all over-tightened at the factory in Germany.
