Ask a tyre retailer, especially an idependent, how much margin they make on a tyre - it's not very much. It's the local distributors - Michellin Aust, Continental Aust, etc that are doing the gouging, and they've been found out.

This is just like the Gerry Harvey bleatings of a year or so back - they're just pi$$ed that they've been found out, and people are going around them - Serve them right I say.

If you want to prove the point, get the retail price of a set of tyres here, and compare to Tyrerack (who will be making a margin in the quote), add 10% for GST, and assume the local retailer makes someting less than 20% (someone may be able to advise more accurately). You'll see where most of the $ is going. And NO, local freight when they deliver by the truck load isn't very much - so BS to that one too!

Pity is, their greed will end up costing Australians their jobs.
