Believe auto insurance is a matter regulated by the states. Here in Georgia, they'll cover a repair if the crack is smaller than 5 or 6 inches - insurance deductible applies for a replacement. Seem to recall the details were different in both New York and Florida when I lived there.

If I can avoid it, I'd rather not make a claim against insurance. I don't want to be paying for it piecemeal over the next 10 years through higher premiums!

I'm surprised to hear you replace windshields that frequently - I've been driving for about 15 years and this is the second I've had an issue with.
