Doug, I am also a cautious driver. The reason is that things seem to always happen to me, people following too close, gravel tuck turns over in front of me, flock of geese whatever. That being said, and believe me I know, just owning one of these cars is a rare and awesome thing. When I decided to get back into them, after selling my 2nd one, it was a chore that I wished I could have avoided. You will never regret keeping it, but take it from me, once it's gone, it's gone.
The car is so unique, is supplants the Z8 and most all other BMW's as a collectible, DD or whatever. I have yet to drive mine (any of them) and not have people come up and start asking questions. Even as a DD these cars are great investments as most if not all can be sold for the original MSRP or thereabouts.
Much like our friend from Canada, I decided (with a little help from inheritance) to find the lowest mileage 1M available as my car to appreciate, while feeling a bit more free to drive the other.
So, what you really need to do is buy a second one. Start looking!
