I had mine trip limp mode on the track when I ran low on fuel. Last turn was a long sweeper. Enough time for the remaining fuel to flow away from the fuel pump. There was a stutter them limp. Fortunately pit entrance was right there so I pulled in, turned car on them off, back to normal. Clearly there are any number of scenarios that will trigger limp to protect the engine.
