Just for the record and FWIW: BMW North America announced to recall 156,137 cars for a VANOS bolts issue. The problem is confined to 2010 to 2012 vehicles with inline six-cylinder engine, including E82 1 Series:

"based on the same recall in China, it covers N52 and N55 engines" (and thus not N54 engines).
