I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say the 1M channels the inner spirit of the E30 M3. Overall length notwithstanding, the two are actually very different. Aside from the free-revving motor, the E30 M3 is pretty docile and it's handling is extremely predictable. The 1M has boost-bomb torque delivery. With the nannies off, it can be really entertaining, but not really in a confidence-inspiring way.
