I'm not so sure about this. To the best of my knowledge you can't even get fuel with that high of an octane rating in the U.S. So it would be silly if not illegal for BMW to claim performance figures that are only achievable from that kind of fuel for a U.S. car.

This isn't a hard question to answer. Any car's owner's manual I've seen so far mentions the minimum ideal octane rating of the fuel you should use. If one of the owner's could look it up in theirs, that should settle it. I'm talking about owners of U.S. vehicles.
