Quick question: Does the transmission support brace really need to come off? Couldn't you just remove the top and bottom nuts off the 2 mounts and then lift the transmission up high enough to remove the old ones and slip the new ones back in? Or is there not enough space to actually do that?

At least on my 128i, it did have to come out. The transmission would only move upwards about 1/4" (I'm not sure what stopped it moving any further). If it would lift up higher I bet you could rotate the mounts out backwards, but unfortunately I don't think there's room to do that.
