It was well before I was born (although I do vividly remember watching, in person, the Challenger Disaster when I was in elementary school).

Irrespective of that, the moon landings were nothing short of amazing.

I read somewhere recently, that several people calculated the distance to the moon, technology at the time, human knowledge, danger, risk, and other variables and determined that an equal comparison would have been Columbus sailing across the Atlantic in the 1400's with a crew of 3 on a row boat that was 8ft long and contained no sails.

That was the odds of success and survival.

Blows the mind.
