Nice price for your 1. I think a clean 135i in the right spec has enjoyed very strong residual value over the past decade. You surpassed me on mileage. I'm still at 44,000 something because I just don't have the time to drive it.

Modern Volkswagens are good cars. A colleague of mine, actually the one who inspired me to buy a 135i, and now two of them, replaced his 2011 135i with a 2012 GTI that he has had ever since. He loves the car and it's given him very few problems. The GLI is also a really good choice. I would say it's everything the GTI is, but in a more attractive (especially the most recent generation) sedan form. I like the Jetta anyway. A buddy of mine had a 2014 5-speed with one of the first new 1.8T engines that was excellent at altitude (at 5,000 feet it could keep pace with my E36 M3), and another former colleague of mine has a 2017 Jetta 1.4T 5-speed that we just took to the Bay Area and back a few months ago. We averaged almost 40 MPG going 80! I can't say I'd ever buy another VAG product after my Audi S4 experience, but I think the GLI will work well for you. Best of luck and enjoy!
