It gets confusing because the Turbos didn't run the same years vs. 911 regular and "S" model years, also the break from 996 to 997.1 did follow model years, but not the actual year that the cars were manufactured, e.g. I believe that some of the 997.1 911s were manufactured in 2004, but designated to be from the 2005 model year.

My suggestion would be to do what I did, if you are serious about a 996 TT; buy one with more miles on it, that has been well maintained. Mine has around 78K miles on it now, and the last 2 owners dumped around $25K into the car over the last 3 years. I paid $41K for it, with brand new tires and wheels, just this past May.

I'm not saying that you can replicate the same deal that I got, but I would not think that you would need to spend more than $50K to get a good, well-sorted one, especially if you go above 50-60 thousand miles.
