You're not trying to minimize "fluctuation" you're trying not to run out of juice. It won't happen unless your battery is old and weak. But, just in case, you can hook up those cables front or back or hook the car to a charger. Voltage can vary widely depending on how many accessories you have turned on sagging the output and whether the other car is running / how long the charger has been running.
In short stop thinking and start doing.
