This doesn't really make much sense. The existing 1er hatch (Europe) was launched as MY2004. Using BMW's typical 7yr life cycles, that dictates a MY2011 F20. But seems like that's missed, so we'll probably see F20 for MY2012 (in hatch form). BMW coupes normally come out 1 yr later, so we'll see F22 launched for MY2013.
Does it really make any business sense for BMW to dump so much R&D and marketing costs into a M1 based on the current 1er, launch it in 2011 for MY2012, and stop selling it just one year later and come out with a new one a few years after that?
It's always a good idea to put out a modified version of a product in the middle to end of its life, like the new 335is (or any LCI for that matter) as a means to keep sales going, but it doesn't make sense to develop a VERY HEAVILY modified version of a product one year before it's death. I can see a 135is coming for a year or two, and a M1 launched for MY2014 a year after the F22 coupe.
