A little late to respond, but I just finished this on my 135i. There is nothing to be coded, but you will need a harness which you will have to run from your steering wheel column to the shift lever in the center console. I believe there are a couple of vendors that sell them.
Also, you will need the steering wheel controls that came with the paddle shifters. Usually when you buy the harness they will tell you what part number is needed to work.
