I agree wholeheartedly.
As a former Z4 M Coupe owner, I'm tremendously disappointed at what the Z4 has become. The E85 always seemed to be overshadowed by the Boxster and Cayman, but instead of coming back with a more competitive version, BMW instead chose to water down the E89 and target a different non-performance-oriented demographic. Examples:
- No more coupe. And no, a retractable hardtop doesn't count.
- No //M version, which to me is a shame considering how good the Z4 M Coupe was. I'm now driving a F80 BMW M3, and I can only imagine what the S55 motor would feel like in a compact two-seater.
- Perhaps the greatest tragedy of all, no manual transmission.
It doesn't make sense to me that they're spending all this money campaigning a stunning and brutally fast GTLM racecar, but then don't offer a serious performance variant for those that come visit the showroom.
