Here's 18x8.5 ET45. Dropping to 17" means you hit the strut. ET40 might work, but then you lose 5mm of space.

What size tires are shown in those pictures?
I'd be fine with a 17x8" with proper offset if that is needed. I've pretty much accepted that I'll eventually get 17" ARC-8 with 235 summer tires at some point but I'm not entirely thrilled about having to "make it work". I've got an M3 that takes up all my play money right now anyways so I'm not too worried about it.
