The rated rim width range for 205/50R17 tires goes up to 7.5 inches. So you're ok to go with 7.5 square wheels on these tires until such time that you are ready to replace the tires with 225/45 all around. This can be expedited by rotating your wheels, to put the 225's on front and 205's on rear, and proceeding to hoon* it a bit.
Alternatively, you could spend a little more money to do it the 'right' way by buying a pair of 225/45's to replace the 205/50, and selling the 205/50's for pennies on the dollar on craigsface or to a local 'used tire' dealer.
