The difference is the stuff you are using from Wally World is not approved by BMW NA. Does the bottle you have say
BMW LL-1 approved?
Does it have any ACEA ratings>? Some like these---> (see the writing on the black partion of the Castrol label
It is sort of like the many different types of
Mobil-1 oils sold in the USA. Only
ONE is approved! And that is the
Mobil-1 0w40 european blend BMW LL-1 oil!
