This is due to the engine undertray cover is different from standard to M Sport Bumper, so they added this extra part in case the car doesn't have the M Sport you can easily get the Performance bumper installed without having to buy the new engine undertray which is more expensive.
In my case I bought an used one that brought that belly pan, but I had already bought the M Sport engine undertray since mine was broken, so I didn't needed to use it.

My 128i came with the standard bumper and I retrofitted the M Sport bumper. The connection between the undertray and center of the M sport bumper is not quite right, would installing this adapter piece solve the issue or is it
only for the Aero bumper to work?
