Z3M shifter?
What car do you have?

The cheapest way is just to replace the shift lever(#6) and plastic socket bearing(#7)... Personally I would go with the 128i Perf Short Shifter(since BMW still sells it) or go with an e60 550i shift lever... but with the e60(and other models) you might have to bend the shift lever for proper palm/hand alignment in your car. I have the e60 550i shift lever in my e39 540i and just LOVE it. I like it even more than my Perf SSK for my 135i. I had a Z3M SHIFT lever in my old e36 323i... while it did the job... it felt like you were about to break something on each and every shift. But the shifter throws were very short. I would say go with the 128i Perf short shifter or the e60 550i - and make it work.

The LONGER the end of the shifter rod is... the shorter the throws. You can see that the X3M has the longer end link... hence the very short throws.
