Yeah, I was surprised how much attention my 135 drew in Germany when I picked it up on Euro Delivery back in the Spring of 2008. Many compliments, smiles, and thumbs up. With the 1 series being around for a few years prior, I did not expect that.

I believe imported cars in Australia carry additional import fees/duties along with taxes thereby increasing the price. Some of the performance oriented 'domestics' carry a more reasonable price tag:

There are also the Commodore SS and SS V-Series that cost a bit more. http://www.holden.com.au/vehicles/commodore#/overview

There are also the Ford Falcon XR models which I think are in the $35,000 - $45,000 AUD range. I know the Holdens and Fords aren't directly comparable to a 135, but it shows that not all cars in Australia are outrageously expensive.
