My 135i (w/Msport suspension/Msport wheels) has the same size tires (Michelin AS3+) as my E90 330i w/sport pkg Michelin PS4S).
IMO, these size tires look perfect on the 1er, and I have not encountered any clearance or performance issues.
My guess is most E8x with stock or mild suspension setup would have no problem with the majority of street tires available in E90 OEM sport sizes.
The main challenge for E8x chassis would come from:
1. Most track tire widths (increased width despite having the advertised OEM width)
*and/or*
2. aggressive suspension setup
*and/or*
3. aggressive wheel sizes/offsets
At that point, all cards are off the table
