Somewhat strange that the mechanic who did your plugs & coils didn't notice leakage ("less than 10K miles ago"). Mine (altho a 128) had significant leakage under the engine cover but only "seepage" on the outside.
And FWIW, my BMW garage just replaced the gasket, not the whole valve cover. And, a pro on here recommended I leave the engine cover off; it does nothing but hides problems. I followed his advice.
