Yeah well keep in mind, it's the ring. It's a long track. 5-10 seconds on a 12 mile long track is a blink of an eye. All it takes is a few little mistakes in driving the whole 8 minutes of driving to lose that time. A short track, hell 5-10 is a lifetime. With a 12 mile track, there's so many variables that it's not a real feasible testbed of how fast the car is. Hell, it'll be difficult for the same driver to do the track identically each and every time without a mistake because it is so LONG and has so many turns.

Take for example take 2 drivers that do a 1 minute track 1 sec apart. 8 minutes is 8 seconds.
