Installation is actually easier on a 6sp manual car, since all that needs to be done is the entire final drive unit gets unbolted and the new unit bolted in place. Most gas stations could do that (heck, I've replaced entire final drive units on my other bimmer before, and it's not difficult), though I'd recommend somebody slightly more knowledgeable than your corner gas station.

If you have a slushie, the parts are a lot cheap, in that you only have to purchase the Quaife unit (not the entire final drive unit, since the ring gears are not welded on the automatic tranny cars), but opening the diff case and making sure the replaced unit is aligned properly, is more specialized and costly. If they've installed one before on any car, they have the tools...
