The thing with LED is that you have to do it correctly. Meaning tuck the all the bits and pieces out of the way of the motor and arm movements and make sure you put the cover back on correctly. I agree with darkom, even simply change out the bulb can cause a failure if the cover is not fitted correctly.
With all that said, I would have tried this fix instead of LED if I knew it was an option. Then I would not have to worry about those heatsink/ballast things.
