Is this similar to other BMWs? If not, how far off is it? For those of you with newer 3er coupes, how much "play" room is there? (I know the 1er will be different, but just to get an idea...)

Well, many wheels with lip for a E46 M3 are around 25-35 offset. Depending on width that is...9.5" for rear. Usually it is the rears you are worried about if you want a wider lip. Fronts you can usually run a spacer. Will be interesting to see how much lip/offset that can be had in 19s without sticking out or rubbing.
