Take it to an Indy
My buddy just did this exact same repair for his own 335i n54, It's a common problem. I think the charge was like less than 1/3 of that 8k quote. To bad you are not in California.

Here are picks of the shredded belt in the pickup tube and screen. You will also have to replace the front seal.
