I just did this as the first mod for my 128i. I took more time debating about using tools, and in the end I just put on cut resistant gloves, grabbed the original grills and yanked them out. Just make sure to pull straight towards yourself and they "pop" out suddenly when they un-clip. Had to pull pretty hard.
Just popped the new grills in. Took a few seconds.
