With the valve open on the HMS, it's a straight pipe exhaust - there's plenty of volume with just the axle-back!
Having said that the mids just make it more aggressive. A fellow 1M owner in my city was running HMS with Berk mids (black car) and it sounded very different to mine, I thought better tone but less aggressive. We did a quick vid:
