You'll get an engine temperature warning, at which point you need to pull over and shut it down immediately (overheating can warp the cylinder head). You can then slowly limp it home 5 minutes of running, 10 minutes of cooling at a time...
Never experienced this myself, but that's what I've heard about it failing.
