Oil leak from under filter housing -- cylinder gasket and sulev?

So we bought this perky little white 128 convertible on a whim from a guy who offloads dealer trade-ins.

I notice 6 months later that it's leaving little spoonfulls of oil puddles while parked.

Tracking it up to the oil filter housing gasket, I change the gasket. But I find this under the housing: a protruding gasket -- the cylinder gasket?

After the filter housing gasket change, the N51 is still leaking oil. I wash the engine down to find the source. There isn't a leak down the front anymore, so at least I fixed that. But there is still fresh oil down and under the intakes. Boo.

And I remember the picture I took of the protruding gasket. It didn't seem right at the time..

136,000 miles, NJ, SULEV engine -- will I get lucky and have it covered under warranty?
