Have no experience but just want to add that you should check on a used car physically yourself. I've been looking on mobile.de with the possibility of importing a 2004/05 5 door into Canada from Germany and I'm seeing a few that would work for me altho not too many 130's. Obviously the shorter your wife, the more room in the backseat. I presently own a 2008 128 coupe, 2008 being the first year the 1 series was imported into North America.
